The Obsession with Roses

Spare_A_Rose_2At this time of year, with Valentines right around the corner, I got to thinking about our societies obsession with roses.

I have recently learned about the Spare a Rose, Save a Child ( http://bit.ly/SpareRoseSaveChild ) I think it’s a wonderful cause. I’ve read recently about all the children who are unable to obtain insulin, whether the parents don’t have money, or don’t have access to the medical facilities in order to monitor or provide the proper care for children struggling with Type 1 Diabetes.

I am so fortunate to live where I do, and have access to doctors and medication for Carter in order to save his life daily.  What I take for granted these days, my son’s insulin, people are living and dying without.

I urge everyone to look at the link above, and donate what you can, in an effort to save lives.   I can’t imagine losing my baby due to not having access to the medicine he needs to survive.  Managing Diabetes is an all-consuming effort, and the first step after diagnosis is to have access to insulin.

During the month of February, when we all spend exorbitant amounts frivolously on roses that will die within a week, lets put our funds toward a cause that will allow a newly diagnosed child to live beyond a week.  My heart breaks for people who  are given this devastating blow and are either unable to afford the proper care, or don’t have the proper care available to them.  Lets end Diabetic deaths, and stop DKA from starting.
